Diamondbacks left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery is set to undergo Tommy John surgery next week, as reported by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Montgomery’s spring training was delayed due to an index finger injury that pushed back his throwing program. However, in his most recent appearance, he pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings.
The 32-year-old Montgomery signed a one-year, $25 million deal with the Diamondbacks just two days before last year’s Opening Day, which included an option.

He was one of Scott Boras’ high-profile clients during the previous offseason, but misjudged the market, resulting in him settling for smaller contracts than expected. His 2024 season was a disappointment.
Montgomery finished with an 8-7 record and a 6.23 ERA, eventually losing his spot in the rotation to Ryne Nelson. He was shifted to the bullpen, then returned to the rotation after Nelson was injured. Following the season, he chose to exercise his $22.5 million player option with Arizona.
Montgomery was drafted by the Yankees in 2014 and made his MLB debut with them in 2017. After six seasons with New York, he was traded to the Cardinals in 2022 in exchange for outfielder Harrison Bader. At the 2023 trade deadline, he was dealt to the Rangers, where he helped them win the World Series.
The New York Yankees have officially responded to the Seattle Mariners’ reported trade proposal involving veteran slugger Giancarlo Stanton, and the verdict is in: Stanton is staying in the Bronx — for now. Sources close to the organization confirmed that the Yankees have declined Seattle’s initial offer, which would have sent the $325 million outfielder/designated […]
The New York Yankees have been struggling with a noticeable gap in their infield ever since Gleyber Torres was traded to the Detroit Tigers. With no standout infield prospects ready to step in at third base, the Yankees will either need to make a trade or rely on DJ LeMahieu to fill the role. Recently, […]
The New York Yankees are finally receiving some positive news on the injury front. After right-handed starter Clarke Schmidt’s successful rehab outing in Double-A—where he allowed no runs and struck out seven in 3 1/3 innings—the team has another hopeful update regarding its pitching staff. “Jonathan Loaisiga (rehab from surgery) threw a bullpen session today […]
