A prominent media outlet suggests that running back Devin Singletary may be on his way out of New York just one year after signing as a key free agent for the Giants.
The departure of long-time star Saquon Barkley to the rival Philadelphia Eagles last March left a significant void in the Giants’ backfield. Rather than signing a top-tier replacement, the team opted for the more modest addition of veteran Devin Singletary.
At the time, the Giants hoped the 27-year-old could either unlock untapped potential or serve as a temporary solution until a better option emerged.
According to Pro Football Network, it’s starting to look like the latter. The selection of Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 draft and the breakout performance of fifth-round rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. last season have placed Singletary’s roster spot in jeopardy.
Tracy, who rushed for 839 yards on 192 carries, effectively took over the starting role, outperforming Singletary’s 437 yards on 113 carries. Given Singletary’s lack of contribution on special teams—just 23 snaps over six seasons—his value to the team is minimal if he can’t secure a backup role.
Financially, cutting Singletary after June 1 would cost the Giants just $4.75 million in dead money this year and $1.25 million next year, making a release or minor trade seem increasingly likely.
