Shock Transfer Alert: Rising Star Guard Makes Surprise Move to East Carolina

East Carolina has added a promising young talent to its roster with the commitment of Isaiah Mbeng, a standout guard and All-CAA Rookie Team selection from Monmouth University. Mbeng announced his decision to transfer to ECU this week, giving the Pirates a major boost in their backcourt heading into the upcoming season.

As a freshman at Monmouth, Mbeng quickly made a name for himself in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). He averaged 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, showing flashes of elite athleticism and defensive potential. His performance earned him a spot on the All-CAA Rookie Team, marking him as one of the top first-year players in the league.

The 6-foot-4 guard is known for his energy, perimeter defense, and slashing ability. He started 30 games in his debut season and played a key role in Monmouth’s rotation. His combination of size and skill makes him a versatile addition for ECU, which is looking to reload under head coach Michael Schwartz.

Mbeng’s move to East Carolina represents a significant step up in competition, as the Pirates compete in the American Athletic Conference. With ECU in need of depth and playmaking in the backcourt, Mbeng could make an immediate impact and compete for major minutes as a sophomore.

His addition is part of ECU’s broader effort to strengthen its roster through the transfer portal this offseason. As the program looks to climb the AAC standings, players like Isaiah Mbeng could be key to building a competitive and dynamic lineup.
