Strategic Move: Kentucky Wildcats Officially Sign 7-Foot Center with Superhuman Potentials, Promises to Elevate the Team to New Heights

The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team has officially signed Reece Potter, a 7-foot-1 center who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Miami (OH), as announced by head coach Mark Pope on Thursday.

Reece Potter is a Lexington Catholic legend,” Pope said in a statement. “He’s a tall, versatile player with an impressive mix of mobility and skill. Reece excels in passing, shooting, and rim protection, making him a perfect fit for our system. Most importantly, he truly understands what it means to wear a Kentucky jersey.”

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Potter played high school basketball at Lexington Catholic, where he was named the 2023 Lexington Player of the Year by the Lexington Herald-Leader and was a finalist for Mr. Kentucky Basketball.

During his two years at Miami, Potter averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. He shot 45.4% from the field and an impressive 39.8% from beyond the arc. He made 11 starts as a freshman in 2023-24 and appeared in 30 games off the bench last season, contributing to Miami’s 25-9 record and 14-4 conference performance, which led them to the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game.

Potter scored in double figures six times during his sophomore year and 11 times in total throughout his college career. His standout game came in a win over Sacred Heart in December, where he scored 19 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. He also had a strong showing in the opening round of the MAC Tournament against Eastern Michigan, finishing with 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds, and two blocks.

At Lexington Catholic, Potter earned 11th Region Player of the Year honors as a senior, averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds for the District 43 champions, while also serving as team captain. Potter now becomes the 88th all-time Wildcat from Lexington to play for his hometown team.
