As the Texas Rangers continue their series against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, the team has shared an encouraging update on catcher Kyle Higashioka.
The veteran backstop, currently on the 10-day injured list with a mild left intercostal strain sustained during a recent series against the Athletics, is set to begin a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Round Rock Express. The Express are currently in El Paso, Texas, facing off against the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate.
Higashioka, who signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Rangers this past offseason, has hit .254 with one home run, eight RBIs, five doubles, and a .669 OPS over 17 games this season.
Despite the limited appearances, he’s performed as expected and is poised to provide a boost to Texas’ lineup upon his return. He opened the season as the team’s starting catcher and his return could offer much-needed depth.

The Rangers, currently sitting at 18-21, are in fourth place in a tightly contested AL West, just five games behind division-leading Seattle.
With Houston and Oakland tied for second, the division remains wide open—but the reigning 2023 AL champions need improved health and consistency to stay competitive.
Key contributors from their championship run, including Marcus Semien (.175) and Adolis Garcia (.226), have struggled at the plate, combining for 66 strikeouts, seven home runs, and 34 RBIs through 39 games. Meanwhile, rookie Wyatt Langford has emerged as a bright spot, batting .269 with six homers, 14 RBIs, and a strong .823 OPS.
