In a move that has electrified the Central Washington football community, Wildcats legend Alex Kastens has made a dramatic return to his alma mater — this time on the sidelines. Kastens has been officially appointed as the new Offensive Line Coach for the CWU Wildcats, marking a full-circle moment for the former standout lineman.
Kastens, who enjoyed a decorated playing career at Carroll College, is no stranger to the trenches. Known for his gritty style and technical prowess on the field, he earned multiple All-Conference honors and quickly transitioned into a coaching career that’s turned heads across the collegiate ranks.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to return home,” Kastens said during his introductory press conference. “This program shaped me as a player and a person. Now I have the chance to help shape the next generation of Wildcats.”
Before rejoining CWU, Kastens most recently served as Offensive Line Coach at William Jewell College, where he was praised for transforming the team’s protection schemes and run-blocking efficiency. Prior to that, he made significant strides at the University of Mary in North Dakota as Defensive Line Coach, and earlier at Carroll College, where he held multiple coaching responsibilities including Offensive and Defensive Line, Tight Ends, and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Kastens’ offensive line at Carroll was one of the stingiest in the nation, allowing the fewest sacks in the Frontier Conference and ranking among the top 10 nationally.
CWU Head Coach Chris Fisk lauded the hire, calling Kastens “a foundational piece” in building a dominant offensive unit for the coming seasons. “Alex understands what it means to be a Wildcat — the grit, the pride, the work ethic. He’s a student of the game and a leader of young men. We’re thrilled to have him back.”
Kastens takes over a unit looking to re-establish dominance in the GNAC, and expectations are already high. His arrival is viewed not just as a tactical addition but as a symbolic return of Wildcat tradition, toughness, and pride.
With the 2025 season on the horizon, fans are eager to see how this homecoming will reshape the team’s identity — one snap at a time.
