Kansas State Wildcats head coach Jerome Tang continues to reshape his roster for the upcoming 2025–26 season, securing a significant addition from the transfer portal.

On Wednesday, Bowling Green forward Marcus Johnson committed to the Wildcats, becoming the fifth transfer to join the program this offseason .

Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 265-pound senior, brings a versatile skill set to Manhattan. During the 2024–25 season at Bowling Green, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

Notably, he showcased impressive shooting efficiency, hitting 43% from the field, 39.4% from beyond the arc, and setting a school record with an 89.9% free-throw percentage .

His standout performance included a 23-point game against Michigan State, highlighting his ability to compete against high-level opponents .

Before his tenure at Bowling Green, Johnson played at Wheeling University, a Division II program, where he averaged 21.6 points per game in his final season .

His journey from junior college to Division I basketball underscores his determination and growth as a player.

At Kansas State, Johnson is expected to fill the void left by departing players, offering both scoring and leadership .

Coach Tang’s aggressive approach in the transfer market aims to revitalize a Wildcats team that finished the previous season with a 16–17 record .

Alongside Johnson, the team has added other key transfers, including guards Abdi Bashir Jr. from Monmouth and Nate Johnson from Akron, as well as forward Khamari McGriff from UNC Wilmington .

These additions are part of Tang’s strategy to build a competitive roster capable of contending in the Big 12 Conference.

With Johnson’s commitment, Kansas State’s roster now comprises 11 players, blending experienced transfers with incoming freshmen .

As the Wildcats prepare for the new season, the integration of these new talents will be crucial in their pursuit of a return to postseason play. Johnson’s proven scoring ability and experience are anticipated to make him a pivotal contributor in the Wildcats’ campaign.
