The Missouri Tigers have officially added a new player to Dennis Gates’ roster. On Wednesday, Mizzou basketball announced its fourth offseason signing with seven-foot center Shawn Phillips Jr.
A rising senior, Phillips spent the last two seasons at Arizona State, where he averaged 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks over 31 games, including 12 starts, playing about 18 minutes per game.

Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Phillips was a three-star recruit from Dream City Christian High School. He began his college career at LSU in 2022, appearing in 20 games and averaging 1.4 points per contest. Now, he returns to the SEC aiming to help Mizzou build on its recent NCAA Tournament appearance.

Head coach Dennis Gates expressed enthusiasm about the addition, saying, “We’re excited to welcome Shawn to Mizzou. He brings valuable experience from playing in three major conferences, including the SEC.
Shawn’s size, length, athleticism, and strong rim protection make him a key presence in the paint. He has been highly efficient on both offense and defense throughout his career, and we expect him to make a significant impact this season.”
Phillips is the fourth transfer portal signing for the Tigers, joining UCLA guard Sebastian Mack, Oklahoma forward Luke Northweather, and Loyola Marymount forward Jevon Porter in Columbia.
