A Star On The Rise: The Rangers Secure Another Standout Top Experienced Player — A Rising Star Worth Every Investment and Effort

A quick search shows that “anyone” means “any person or people,” and that’s exactly the mindset the Rangers should have in negotiations for Jason Robertson.

After the Dallas Stars suffered a third straight loss in the Western Conference Final, it’s clear they need changes—one likely being moving on from star forward Jason Robertson, who enters the final year of his contract.

The Rangers should be prepared to go all out to acquire him and secure an extension quickly.

To understand why, let’s look at who Robertson is and what he brings on the ice.

Drafted 39th overall in 2017, he spent four seasons in the OHL developing with the Kingston Frontenacs and Niagara Icedogs before turning pro.

In 2019-20, he scored 25 goals and 22 assists for 47 points with the AHL Texas Stars, while also earning his first NHL point in three games with Dallas. From there, Robertson’s rise to stardom was inevitable.

In the COVID-shortened season, Robertson tallied 45 points in 51 games, an impressive start for a full pro season. Over the next four years, he posted 79 points in 74 games, followed by a breakout 109-point season in 2022-23, and consecutive 80-point seasons in 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Over the past four seasons, only two Rangers—Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad—have had better individual campaigns than Robertson.
