Carter was pulled from Friday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning after jamming his right wrist while bracing himself on a diving catch.
Sam Haggerty replaced him in the field, and Carter wasn’t in Saturday’s lineup either.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Carter is undergoing diagnostic testing, but for now, the team is treating it as a precaution.
The wrist showed “pretty good soreness,” according to the Rangers’ training staff.
While Carter’s absence didn’t come as a total surprise — Bochy hinted at it postgame Friday — the team is being extra careful.
With an off day on Monday, Bochy left open the option of resting Carter through the weekend, giving him a full three days to recover before the team returns home to face the Royals on Tuesday.
It’s a frustrating turn for Carter, who had just returned to the lineup on June 3 after a quad strain put him on the injured list in mid-May.
In the eight games since his return, Carter had been heating up fast — slashing .283/.368/.517, with four homers and 10 RBIs. In fact, he entered the current homestand on fire, having gone 10-for-16 over his last four games, raising his average from .196 to .293. He also homered in back-to-back games, logged multiple three-hit games, and was a major spark in Texas’ offensive surge against the Twins.
Carter started the season in the minors but was called up on May 6 and quickly made an impact before injuries slowed his momentum.
Now, the Rangers are hoping this latest setback is just a brief pause — not another extended stay on the shelf.
