Fresh Talent and Familiar Faces In Roster Shake-Up: With Playoff Hopes Alive, Cardinals Make Strategic Moves—Promote Dominant Reliever and Recall Speedy Outfielder

The St. Louis Cardinals made several roster moves on Thursday, selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher Andre Granillo and recalling outfielder Michael Siani from Triple-A Memphis.

To make room on the roster, the team optioned right-hander Chris Roycroft to the minors and designated outfielder Ryan Vilade for assignment.

Granillo, 25, is set to make his MLB debut after posting an impressive 4-0 record and 1.82 ERA over 18 relief outings in Memphis, limiting opposing hitters to a .159 batting average.

Siani, also 25, returns to the big leagues after appearing in 18 games for the Cardinals earlier this season, batting .250 (4-for-16). Over parts of four seasons with the Reds and Cardinals, he owns a .222 career average with two homers and 20 RBIs.

Roycroft, 27, struggled in relief this season with a 1-3 record and a 6.92 ERA over 14 appearances.

Vilade, 26, had just one hit in 13 at-bats (.077) across seven games before being designated.
