The New York Mets are expected to be active at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, with their strong performance this season putting them in a prime position to make impactful moves.
While their starting rotation has been solid, decisions loom as they look to stay competitive.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post floated the idea of a blockbuster reunion with ace Jacob deGrom, one of the best pitchers in MLB history.
Despite his dominance when healthy — boasting a 2.12 ERA and a 179 ERA+ in 2025 — a return to New York seems unlikely.
DeGrom has a full no-trade clause, a hefty contract ($40M this year, $75M over 2026–27), and is reportedly comfortable in Dallas. While intriguing, the risk and cost may be too high for the Mets.
Instead, Sherman suggested alternative targets like Mitch Keller, Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Freddy Peralta.
Jacob deGrom,
Of those, Peralta stands out — affordable at $8 million for 2026 and possibly available if Milwaukee decides to move him despite contending.
While deGrom still outperforms these options statistically, the Mets would face a gamble trying to bring him back.
The Rangers, if they chose to sell, would still demand a strong return for the potential Hall of Famer.
