The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken in a one-for-one trade that sends Joe Veleno the other way.
Burakovsky, 30, is coming off a season where he posted 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) over 79 games. The two-time Stanley Cup champion still has two years left on his current five-year deal, which carries a $5.5 million annual cap hit.
Kraken general manager Jason Botterill expressed gratitude for Burakovsky’s contributions, stating the trade brings in a younger player with NHL experience while helping the team gain greater salary cap flexibility.

Meanwhile, Chicago also announced it has placed veteran defenseman TJ Brodie on unconditional waivers, signaling a contract buyout.
Over his NHL career, Burakovsky has tallied 387 points (153 goals, 234 assists) in 696 games with the Capitals, Avalanche, and Kraken. Veleno, 25, recorded 17 points in 74 games last season split between Detroit and Chicago, and has accumulated 81 career points in 306 games since being drafted in 2018.
