Major Surgery But Not a Major Setback: Another Rangers Key-Man Departs From Team Due To A Season-Ending Injury expected to return in 2026

The Texas Rangers announced that left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford successfully underwent internal brace surgery on his throwing elbow, offering a more optimistic outlook than initially feared.

When it was first revealed that Bradford would need elbow surgery, there was uncertainty surrounding the type of procedure required.

The possibility of Tommy John surgery—a far more invasive operation with an estimated recovery timeline of 12 to 14 months—loomed large. However, after further evaluation, doctors determined that an internal brace procedure would be sufficient.

This less intensive surgery typically carries a shorter recovery period of around 6 to 9 months, potentially allowing Bradford to rejoin the team in the early months of the 2026 season.

Bradford entered 2025 with high expectations after showing flashes of promise in previous seasons. Though he missed time earlier this year with a rib fracture, he performed well when healthy and was viewed as a strong candidate for the Rangers’ 2026 Opening Day rotation.

Unfortunately, during spring training, elbow discomfort derailed his progress. Bradford had been steadily working his way back and was on track to begin a rehab assignment this month.

But following a setback in his recovery, medical staff and team officials concluded that surgery was the best path forward.

While any surgical procedure brings concern, the successful outcome and the less severe nature of the internal brace operation give both Bradford and the Rangers hope for a full return next season.

His health and eventual comeback could prove to be a key piece in the club’s future pitching plans as they look to stay competitive in the American League.
