In a significant boost to their roster, the Cincinnati Reds activated third baseman Noelvi Marte and reliever Graham Ashcraft from the injured list on Friday, bringing back two key contributors just as the team works to regain full strength.
Marte, who had been out since May 5 with a left oblique strain, returned after an impressive rehab stint across multiple minor league levels, where he hit .333 with a 1.059 OPS and two home runs.
Before the injury, he was already proving his value, batting .294 with three homers and an .857 OPS in the majors, and his return adds another dangerous bat to manager Terry Francona’s lineup.
Ashcraft, who had missed time with a right groin strain, was originally scheduled for more rehab work this weekend but was activated early after showing readiness during a simulated game, bringing back a reliable late-inning arm with a 5-4 record and 4.19 ERA out of the bullpen.
Manager Terry Francona praised Marte’s hard work and patience during recovery, noting how the young infielder earned everything through his determination and consistency.
Marte himself expressed confidence and positivity throughout the rehab process, believing that once he returned, he’d be ready to perform at a high level.

With both Marte and Ashcraft rejoining the active roster, the Reds made room by optioning infielder/outfielder Ryan Vilade and right-hander Sam Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville.
These moves come just a week after the return of outfielder Austin Hays, signaling that the Reds are gradually assembling the core pieces needed for a strong second-half push.
