Crushing News for Rangers: Texas Rangers Suffer Major Blow, Placing Top Player on Injured List with Potentially Career-Ending Setback

The Texas Rangers placed second baseman Marcus Semien on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left foot contusion — only the second IL stint in his 13-year career.

Semien, who fouled a pitch off his foot in Thursday’s loss to Kansas City, is now in a walking boot, and the team is still unsure how severe the injury is.

At the same time, the Rangers activated right fielder Adolis García, who returned the first day he was eligible after missing time with a left ankle sprain.

García had taken live batting practice Friday and was back in the lineup on Saturday.

Semien’s only previous IL trip came in 2017 with Oakland when a wrist injury sidelined him for nearly three months.

Since joining Texas on a seven-year, $175 million deal in 2022, he has been one of the team’s most durable players, missing just six of 615 games prior to this setback.

Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged that the three-time All-Star, known for playing every day, won’t take the absence lightly.

The injury occurred in the same game that saw Evan Carter fracture his wrist, an injury that could end Carter’s season.

This year, the 34-year-old Semien is batting .230 with 15 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a team-leading 62 runs.

He has also led the Rangers in several major categories since joining the team, including games played, hits, walks, and total bases.
