From Injury Setback to Lineup Hero: Cardinals’ Key Shortstop Makes Shocking Return After Leg Injury Shows Major Improvement, Energizing Playoff Hopes”

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn has been battling knee discomfort for weeks, but the team received positive news about the injury on Monday.

Winn underwent his second MRI of the season, which showed improvement, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Manager Oli Marmol confirmed that there’s no risk of further damage if Winn continues to play, though offseason surgery may be considered.

Despite the lingering issue since the All-Star break, Winn has pushed through the pain, missing only two recent games against the Tampa Bay Rays before his latest MRI.

“Obviously it doesn’t feel great, and I would have played today if it did,” Winn said.

“I got an MRI earlier in the year that showed something minor, so I figured this one might show more. But it doesn’t really change my outlook.”

Instead, the MRI showed progress, and Winn was back in the lineup Monday as the Cardinals opened a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He acknowledged surgery could still be an option later but emphasized his focus on the playoff race: “Right now, I want to be out there with my teammates and help us make a run.”

For now, Winn’s challenge will be managing pain rather than avoiding further injury.

His determination to play through discomfort reflects the grit the Cardinals need as they continue their postseason push.
