SHOCKING SETBACK FOR TEXAS RANGERS | Star Shortstop Undergoes Emergency Appendectomy After Sudden In-Game Abdominal Pain, Placed on Injured List as Team Scrambles to Adjust Roster

Texas Rangers shortstop underwent an appendectomy on Thursday after experiencing abdominal pain during the previous night’s game.

He will be placed on the 10-day injured list, with newly signed utility man Dylan Moore set to be called up as his replacement.

Moore had just joined Texas on a minor league deal after being released by AL West rivals, the Seattle Mariners.

Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young confirmed that Seager had the surgery in Texas while the team traveled to California to begin a weekend series against the Oakland Athletics.

Young noted that it’s still uncertain how long the two-time World Series MVP will be sidelined.

To clear a spot for Moore on the 40-man roster, outfielder Evan Carter—currently recovering from a broken right wrist—will be moved to the 60-day injured list.

The 33-year-old Moore was the Mariners’ longest-tenured player before being designated for assignment last week and released shortly after.

In seven seasons with Seattle, he batted .205 with a .691 OPS, 61 homers, and 116 stolen bases over 671 games.

He also won the 2024 AL Gold Glove Award as a utility player.

Moore opened this season on a high note, hitting .289 with an .869 OPS, seven homers, and 13 RBIs through mid-May.

However, his time with Seattle ended following a severe slump where he went 3-for-74 (.045).

Corey Seager

Overall this year, he has a .193 batting average, .622 OPS, nine homers, and 12 stolen bases in 88 MLB games.

Initially, it was assumed Seager’s removal from Wednesday’s 20-3 blowout win over the Angels was due to the lopsided score.

He had already homered, scored three times, and the Rangers led 11-1 when manager Bruce Bochy pulled him in the fifth inning.

However, Young explained that Seager had been feeling discomfort before the game, which worsened as he played.

Following his exit, he was diagnosed with appendicitis and underwent surgery the next day.
