Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager will undergo an appendectomy, according to multiple reports Thursday, and is expected to miss several weeks — casting doubt on whether he will return before the end of the regular season.
The 31-year-old slugger homered against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night, marking his second consecutive game with a home run, but had reportedly been dealing with abdominal discomfort for several days.
Texas entered Thursday sitting third in the American League West, 6.5 games behind the division-leading Houston Astros and 4.5 games out of the AL’s final wild-card spot.

Corey Seager
Seager has posted a .271 batting average with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs across 102 games this year, despite earlier setbacks that included calf soreness in spring training and two stints on the injured list for hamstring issues.
His 2024 campaign had also been cut short in early September due to a sports hernia.
Across 11 major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2015–21) and Rangers, Seager owns a career .289 average with 221 home runs and 667 RBIs in 1,131 games.
