The Edmonton Oilers have had a busy offseason marked by some bold moves.
They dealt away Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson, while bringing in Andrew Mangiapane and prospect Isaac Howard.
Still, the roster could use another forward before the season begins.
One potential target is Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel, who stands out as a low-risk, high-upside option.
Heavy-sports recently floated a trade proposal sending Reichel to Edmonton in a deal that could benefit both sides.
Proposed Trade
Oilers receive:
• Lukas Reichel
Blackhawks receive:
• 2026 second-round pick
• 2028 third-round pick
• Mattias Janmark
Blackhawks Fielding Offers on Reichel
Reichel has long been in trade speculation as he’s struggled to establish himself in Chicago.
With a wave of other young forwards pushing for ice time, he’s at risk of slipping down the depth chart.
According to The Fourth Period, the Blackhawks have listened to calls and even ranked him No. 23 on their 2025 Summer Trade Watch List.
At just a $1.2 million cap hit for one more season, Reichel remains an affordable and controllable young forward — exactly the type of piece that could appeal to Edmonton.
Reichel’s Connection to Oilers Management
There’s also a personal link here: Oilers general manager Stan Bowman originally drafted Reichel 17th overall in 2020 while leading the Blackhawks.

Lukas Reichel
Bowman’s familiarity and belief in Reichel could increase the odds of a reunion in Edmonton.
If acquired, Reichel could slot into Edmonton’s third line alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Andrew Mangiapane.
Alternatively, he could get a chance in the top six next to fellow German Leon Draisaitl, which could unlock more of his offensive potential.
Why This Deal Could Work
The proposed package gives Chicago two valuable draft picks to strengthen their rebuild, while reuniting them with veteran Mattias Janmark — a dependable bottom-six forward who can guide their younger players.
Moving Janmark’s $1.45 million salary also makes it easier for the Oilers to fit Reichel under the cap.
