Stunning Move: Texas Rangers Stun MLB by Snatching Phillies Star Prospect Despite Intense Bidding War From Multiple Teams

The Philadelphia Phillies could face serious competition this winter in keeping Kyle Schwarber.

Depending on how clubs evaluate Kyle Tucker, Schwarber may be considered the best bat available in free agency.

Tucker is expected to command a much larger contract because of his age and track record, but Schwarber has actually outperformed him at the plate during the 2025 season.

Offense isn’t the only factor, of course — defense and other elements matter too — yet Schwarber’s production has been exceptional, and he’s in line for a big payday.

The Phillies have the financial flexibility to retain him, unless they decide to pursue someone like Tucker instead.

Should Schwarber test free agency, though, plenty of teams would line up with interest.

Jeff Passan of ESPN suggested the Texas Rangers could be among the suitors, adding that with several teams in need of a designated hitter — including Texas, San Diego, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, and Cincinnati — Schwarber’s market will stay strong regardless of league tensions.

The Rangers, despite winning a World Series not long ago, have struggled to maintain that level of success.

They’re still in the playoff mix this year, though not as secure as the Phillies. Given their history of spending big, Texas could appeal to Schwarber, especially if financial terms are his priority.
