The Texas Rangers have signed veteran infielder Donovan Solano to a minor league contract, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Solano, recently released by the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 1 to clear space for catching prospect Harry Ford, joins Texas after hitting .252/.295/.344 with an 84 wRC+ in 69 games this season.
The move comes as the Rangers deal with significant injuries to two of their biggest stars.

Second baseman Marcus Semien is expected to miss the rest of the regular season with a fractured left foot, while shortstop Corey Seager remains out after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Aug. 28. Seager, however, could return for the team’s final homestand later this month.
Because the deal was made so late in the year, Solano won’t be eligible for postseason play should Texas secure a spot.
Still, if he’s added to the 28-man roster before the end of the season, the 37-year-old could play a role in helping the Rangers overtake the Mariners—the same club that released him—for the final AL Wild Card berth.
Solano made his MLB debut with the Marlins in 2012 and has since spent time with the Yankees, Giants, Reds, Twins, Padres, and Mariners.
Over his career, he has produced 7.8 fWAR while proving to be a versatile defender capable of playing multiple infield positions.
A key contributor to Minnesota’s playoff run in 2023, Solano offered reliable on-base skills (.369 OBP) and steady defense across first, second, and third base.
With free agency looming again this offseason, the veteran could be a low-cost, experienced option for teams—including a potential Twins reunion—as he approaches his age-38 season.
