Cross High standout safety and wide receiver Caden Ramsey announced on Sept. 8 that he will continue his football career at the University of South Carolina.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Ramsey, ranked among the state’s top 10 prospects, picked the Gamecocks over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Syracuse.
USC tight ends coach Shawn Elliott extended the offer in late June, and South Carolina quickly emerged as his top choice.
Ramsey, who visited for the Gamecocks’ matchup against South Carolina State, said the decision brought him relief. “It feels good to get it over with.
Coach Elliott and Coach Beamer made it feel like home. I know I made the right decision,” he said.
Although he has only played safety and receiver at Cross, Ramsey is expected to transition to tight endat the college level, likely in a hybrid or H-back role.
He plans to add 25–30 pounds to prepare for the position. “I’ll play anywhere they tell me to play. I just want to be on the field helping us win games,” Ramsey said.
A versatile athlete, Ramsey led the state with 13 interceptions last season, while also recording 38 receptions for 673 yards and eight touchdowns.
This season, he already has two interceptions and three offensive touchdowns through three games.

Cross coach Shaun Wright praised his star player’s adaptability: “He’s versatile and athletic enough to do anything on the field—safety, receiver, long snapper, backup quarterback, punter. He’s a once-in-a-lifetime, generational talent.”
Ramsey also excels in basketball and track, making him one of the area’s most well-rounded athletes.
His commitment makes him the second Berkeley County player to pledge to an SEC program this year, following Timberland offensive lineman Desmond Green (Florida).
He is also just the second Cross High player ever to commit to South Carolina, joining former defensive back Rod Wilson.
