After Sunday’s games, Chicago sits 5.5 games back in the NL Central. Overtaking Milwaukee—owners of baseball’s best record at 91–59—will require both consistent wins and some help from other teams.

Injury Challenges Continue for Chicago

The Cubs have recently battled injuries to key players. Kyle Tucker is on the 10-day injured list with calf tightness, and Pete Crow-Armstrong suffered a knee contusion last week before making a quick return. On Sunday, the team announced another setback, this time involving rookie outfielder Owen Caissie.

Caissie’s Concussion After Outfield Collision

Caissie sustained a concussion on Saturday after crashing into the outfield wall while attempting a catch during the Cubs’ loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the 23-year-old’s condition worsened throughout the afternoon, ultimately forcing him to exit the game and undergo concussion protocol.

Early MLB Stint Cut Short

Called up from Triple-A Iowa on Aug. 14, Caissie has appeared in only 12 Major League games. Over that span he posted a .192 batting average, a .222 on-base percentage, a .346 slugging percentage, and one home run with four RBIs.

Kevin Alcantara Gets the Call

To replace Caissie on the roster, the Cubs recalled fellow 23-year-old outfielder Kevin Alcantara. Chicago will hope Alcantara can provide depth and steady defense as they push through the final stretch of their postseason chase.
