Texas Rangers on-field host Jared Sandler has disclosed that his wife suffered two miscarriages just minutes before he was scheduled to go on air, sharing details of the couple’s years-long struggle to have a child.
Sandler, 36, told The Dallas Morning News that on both occasions he composed himself and went ahead with calling the game, despite being given full support by the team to step away. The broadcaster said his work provided a brief escape during an otherwise devastating period.
According to Sandler, he and his wife Emily, 32, have experienced a total of ten pregnancy losses over the past five years. The losses included miscarriages, medical complications, six failed IVF cycles, and an unsuccessful surrogacy attempt. Their ordeal began in 2020, when Emily’s first pregnancy ended at nine weeks due to chromosomal abnormalities.
Subsequent IVF efforts resulted in short-lived pregnancies, including a seven-week loss and a nine-week miscarriage of twins. Sandler noted that the repeated medical procedures were both emotionally difficult and financially burdensome, with IVF cycles costing up to $25,000 each.
A 2023 surrogacy attempt also ended in miscarriage. Later that year, Emily became pregnant naturally, but the fetus was diagnosed with a severe heart condition at 14½ weeks. The couple lost the baby in December and named her Remi—marking the first time they felt able to name a child they lost. Sandler said he collapsed in grief after seeing the baby’s footprints following Emily’s hospital release.
Both Sandlers described the months that followed as the darkest period of their lives. Emily said she barely left the house, while Jared admitted he withdrew socially and avoided anything related to babies. Emily began to feel a shift only on December 12, 2024—what would have been Remi’s first birthday.
Sandler said his wife’s resilience motivated him to keep supporting her, calling her his “best friend” and one of the strongest people he has ever known.
Despite their setbacks, the couple continued trying to start a family. Emily is now pregnant again and is expecting a baby this spring. She revealed in October that she was initially carrying twins—one naturally and one via a surrogate—though the surrogate later miscarried.
The couple remains hopeful as they prepare for the arrival of their child. Sandler said that while he still strives to be a committed broadcaster, husband, and future father, the meaning of those goals has evolved after their years of hardship.
