After Missouri’s 31-17 victory over Arkansas, the Tigers improved to 8-4 on the season and reentered the AP Top 25. But the standout moment might have been from running back Ahmad Hardy.
A transfer from Louisiana-Monroe, Hardy ranks as the nation’s second-leading rusher with 1,560 yards, trailing only Jacksonville State’s Cam Cook. As a Doak Walker Award finalist, he’s certain to attract attention once the transfer portal heats up. However, Missouri may have solidified more than just their coaching staff recently—they might have secured Hardy’s commitment as well.
Reacting to head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s contract extension, Hardy said, “All I know is he’s staying, so that’s good for me.”
Hardy’s remarks will likely ease concerns for Missouri fans. Although he won’t be eligible for the NFL Draft for another year, he still has the option to transfer. Yet, for now, Drinkwitz’s new deal may have convinced Hardy to remain with the Tigers.
Drinkwitz, for his part, has no plans of letting his star running back go. He called Hardy not only the best running back in the SEC but one of the most consistent players in all of college football.
“I think he’s proven he’s the best, most-consistent back in college football,” Drinkwitz said. “Whether he wins the Doak Walker Award is up to the committees, but there’s no question who’s the top back in college football.”
