According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, the Rangers and Jansen agreed to a two-year, $14.5 million contract, with incentives that could raise the total value to $15.5 million.
Catcher remains one of the most difficult positions to fill with consistent production at the major-league level. During the 2025 season, Texas leaned on Jonah Heim and Kyle Higashioka behind the plate, but the results were underwhelming. Heim not being tendered a contract signaled that the organization was ready to move in a new direction.
That shift led Texas to Jansen, who split the 2025 season between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers. He began his career with the Toronto Blue Jays, spending seven seasons there, before moving around in recent years, including stints with the Boston Red Sox, Rays, and Brewers.
While Jansen may not be a headline-grabbing name, he brings steady defense and right-handed power, even if his batting averages tend to be modest. With Higashioka remaining on the roster, the Rangen Jans on a two-year, $14.5 million deal to form a veteran catching tandem.
As Murray reported, the agreement includes performance bonuses that could push the total value of the contract to $15.5 million.
