The Texas Rangers have been dealt a significant blow in their offseason plans after news surfaced that former Rangers minor league pitcher Josue Rodriguez, a top prospect they reportedly hoped to bring back to bolster their pitching depth, was arrested in connection with two Arizona home invasions.
Rodriguez, along with three other former minor leaguers—Darol Garcia (Dodgers), Scarlyn Lebron (Cubs), and Rony Baez (Cubs)—was taken into custody by Phoenix police this week. None of the four players were under contract with an affiliated MLB team at the time of the alleged incidents.
The alleged home invasions occurred on September 29 and October 8, with one incident reportedly involving a gun being pointed at a child. Police believe the suspects targeted the homes based on recent appliance deliveries.

Rodriguez had been released by the Rangers in February 2024 but remained on the organization’s radar as a potential piece to fill pitching needs. His arrest now complicates the Rangers’ plans to reunite with him and further impacts their search for reliable arms to strengthen the rotation and bullpen.
The four suspects are scheduled to appear in court on December 24, according to AZfamily.com. For the Rangers, this news represents a serious offseason setback, as the team evaluates alternative options to address their pitching depth moving into the 2026 campaign.
