BREAKING: K-State Loses Key Linebacker to Transfer Portal

Kansas State is set to lose one of its top defenders as junior linebacker Austin Romaine plans to transfer from the Wildcats. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound standout from Hillsboro has been a key contributor over the past three seasons and will look to continue his football career elsewhere next year.

Romaine, a two-time Big 12 second-team all-conference selection, has also been recognized as one of the nation’s highest-graded linebackers by Pro Football Focus. This past season, he recorded 66 tackles in nine games, including a season-high 11 tackles in a November matchup against Texas Tech, before suffering a hand injury that ended his season. His sophomore year saw him tally 96 tackles, while he finished with 22 tackles as a freshman.

Romaine’s departure comes amid significant turnover in Manhattan following the unexpected retirement of Chris Klieman and the hiring of Collin Klein as head coach. He is arguably the biggest name among nearly 20 outgoing transfers from the program. With his strong production and consistent performance, Romaine is expected to draw attention from multiple programs and could even consider entering the NFL Draft.

There is a silver lining for K-State’s roster, as defensive back Donovan McIntosh has signaled his intention to return after previously announcing a transfer. Additionally, running back Joe Jackson and backup quarterback Blake Barnett are confirmed to remain with the Wildcats for next season.

The Wildcats’ roster continues to evolve as more players make decisions in the transfer portal, leaving fans eager to see how K-State rebuilds under Klein’s leadership and new defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson.
