BREAKING: Eli Drinkwitz Confirms Two Starters Out for TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz shared an updated injury and availability report Tuesday, revealing that the Tigers will be without two key starters for the upcoming TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. He also noted that the availability of another important contributor remains unclear.

Linebacker Josiah Trotter has been ruled out after sustaining a knee injury in Missouri’s 31–17 regular-season finale win over Arkansas. Although Trotter was able to finish the game, Drinkwitz said the injury later required surgery, sidelining him for the bowl matchup.

Tight end Brett Norfleet will also miss the game. Norfleet, Missouri’s primary starter at the position, underwent surgery on a shoulder injury originally suffered during the Oct. 25 game against Vanderbilt, ending his season early.

Drinkwitz acknowledged the impact of both absences, calling them significant losses not only on the field but also in the locker room, noting the leadership and character both players bring to the program.

Zion Young’s status remains uncertain

Another notable situation involves defensive lineman Zion Young, a consistent contributor throughout the season. Young was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Drinkwitz declined to clarify whether Young will play in the bowl game, stating that the matter is being handled internally.

The Missouri coach expressed disappointment in Young’s actions, emphasizing accountability while also stressing growth and education within the program, particularly regarding player decision-making and safety.

Despite the roster setbacks, Drinkwitz underscored the importance of the bowl game for Missouri as it faces a ranked opponent with a chance to make program history.

The Tigers will take on No. Virginia Cavaliers on Dec. 27 at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. Virginia enters the matchup at 10–3 overall and 7–1 in ACC play, while Missouri stands at 8–4 overall and 4–4 in SEC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC, with Missouri aiming to secure a ninth win or more for the first time in program history.
