BREAKING: Washington Huskies secure commitment from local three-star cornerback prospect

Washington continues to prioritize in-state talent under head coach Jedd Fisch, and the Huskies have added another local prospect to their 2027 recruiting class. Maurice Williams, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback from Graham-Kapowsin High School, announced his commitment to UW Wednesday via social media. He becomes the second player in the Huskies’ 2027 class, joining Sumner native Braylon Pope, who committed earlier this month.

Williams, a three-star recruit, is currently ranked as the No. 7 player in Washington, No. 42 cornerback, and No. 433 nationally in the early 2027 cycle according to 247Sports composite rankings. He also held offers from Arizona State, BYU, Washington State, and several other Pac-12 and Mountain West programs.

A St. Louis native who transferred to Graham-Kapowsin after two seasons at Yelm High, Williams earned second-team South Sound Conference honors as a freshman and first-team Class 4A All-SPSL recognition as a sophomore. In 2025, his junior year, he again earned first-team All-SPSL honors while helping Graham-Kapowsin reach the Class 4A state semifinals.

Washington’s cornerback group lost both starters from the 2025 season, Ephesians Prysock and Tacario Davis, and sophomore Leroy Bryant announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. Returning players for 2026 include Dylan Robinson and Elias Johnson, along with redshirted freshmen D’Aryhian Clemons and Ramonz Adams Jr. The Huskies may also look to add cornerbacks through the transfer portal, which opens Jan. 2.

With Williams and Pope, UW now has commitments from two of the state’s top seven recruits in the early 2027 cycle. Several other highly ranked Washington prospects, including Tevita Nonu, Sione Kaho, Gecova Doyal, and Ty Tautolo, have also received UW offers.

Williams’ addition strengthens the Huskies’ focus on homegrown talent while addressing a key position need in the secondary for the coming seasons.
