BREAKING: Gamecock EDGE earns East-West Shrine Bowl invite as South Carolina’s NFL hopefuls emerge

South Carolina’s EDGE rusher Bryan Thomas Jr. will take his talents to a national stage after officially accepting an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl, the annual postseason all-star game. Thomas becomes the first Gamecock this offseason to confirm participation in the Shrine Bowl, highlighting the growing presence of South Carolina players in the NFL postseason circuit.

Thomas spent four years developing with the Gamecocks, steadily earning a larger role on the defensive line. As a senior, he broke out as a difference-maker, recording eight sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss, earning All-SEC honors. Over his college career, Thomas totaled 13.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, and 92 tackles, demonstrating a consistent ability to disrupt opposing offenses.

After exhausting his collegiate eligibility, Thomas declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, entering the process as a player who had steadily climbed draft boards through his senior season performance. While he may initially be considered a candidate for undrafted free agent opportunities, his production, versatility, and edge-rushing skill set make him a noteworthy prospect.

The East-West Shrine Bowl will take place on Tuesday, January 27, at the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility in Frisco, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on NFL Network and streaming via NFL.com.

Thomas won’t be the only Gamecock competing in postseason all-star games. Running back Rahsul Faison, defensive back Jalon Kilgore, and defensive lineman Nick Barrett are set to participate in the Panini Senior Bowl, while defensive back DQ Smith will showcase his talents at the Hula Bowl.

This surge of postseason participation reflects South Carolina’s rising profile in the NFL Draft landscape, as several players aim to translate their collegiate success into professional opportunities.
