The South Carolina Gamecocks will see a key member of their secondary depart as the transfer portal opens on January 2. Myles Norwood, who joined the Gamecocks last year after transferring from Ball State, will be leaving the program, according to a report from On3 Sports citing Norwood’s agent.
Norwood appeared in 10 games last season, including two starts, and logged 242 snaps. While his overall Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 45 was the lowest among Gamecocks who saw coverage snaps, he made 19 tackles and was strong against the run, earning a run-defense grade of 72, ranking ninth among South Carolina defenders. He was targeted 21 times, allowing 15 receptions for 171 yards, but did not surrender a touchdown or record a pass breakup.
Norwood becomes the 10th scholarship player to enter the transfer portal this offseason and the first defensive back to do so. Despite his departure, the Gamecocks will retain experienced returners in the secondary, including Vicari Swain, Peyton Williams, and Judge Collier. The team had already lost defensive veterans Jalon Kilgore, DQ Smith, and Brandon Cisse to the NFL Draft.
This marks another significant offseason shift for South Carolina, highlighting the ongoing changes in the program’s roster as it prepares for the 2026 season.
