BREAKING: Rangers Strengthen Pitching Depth by Signing Well-Traveled Diamondbacks Starter

The Texas Rangers have bolstered their pitching depth this offseason by signing well-traveled Diamondbacks starter Nabil Crismatt to a minor league contract, according to reports. The deal marks Crismatt’s second stint in the Rangers organization after pitching for their Triple-A affiliate in 2024.

Crismatt, 31, brings a wealth of experience across Major League Baseball, having spent time with eight organizations, including the Mets, Cardinals, Mariners, Rangers, Padres, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Phillies. Over 122 MLB appearances, he has compiled a 3.71 career ERA across 211 innings, primarily serving as a bulk reliever.

The Colombian pitcher made five starts for Arizona in 2025, helping the Diamondbacks manage injuries in their rotation. He began the season with the Philadelphia Phillies on a minor league deal but spent most of the year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 4.04 ERA over 100.1 innings. After being released by the Phillies in August, Crismatt signed with the Diamondbacks, pitching 34 innings in eight appearances and recording a 3.71 ERA.

Crismatt’s 2025 performance highlighted his ability to limit hard contact. He induced swings outside the strike zone at a 33.2% rate and produced a hard-hit rate of just 29.7%, though his underlying metrics suggested some regression risk, including a .280 expected batting average and 4.58 xERA.

Known for his deep pitch arsenal, Crismatt throws a four-seamer, sinker, cutter, slider, curveball, and changeup. His changeup stands out as his primary weapon, generating a 33.3% whiff rate and finishing hitters 25.7% of the time in two-strike counts.

The Rangers now add Crismatt as a versatile arm who could provide depth at both the major and minor league levels, giving the organization more options as they head into the 2026 season.
