BREAKING: Bruins Star Goaltender Takes Leave of Absence for Personal Reasons Amid Challenging 2025–26 Season

The Ottawa Senators announced Sunday that goaltender Linus Ullmark has stepped away from the team for personal reasons.

In a brief statement shared by the organization on social media, Senators general manager and president of hockey operations Steve Staios said Ullmark has the team’s full support during his absence, adding that no further details would be provided out of respect for the veteran netminder.

Ullmark, 32, is in his second season with Ottawa after being acquired from the Boston Bruins in a trade in June 2024. He enjoyed the most successful season of his NHL career with Boston in 2022–23, when he led the league in goals-against average (1.89) and save percentage (.938).

That standout campaign earned Ullmark both the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goaltender and the Jennings Trophy for helping the Bruins allow the fewest goals.

The 2025–26 season has been more challenging for Ullmark, however. He currently leads the NHL in goals allowed (82) and holds a 14–8–5 record through 28 appearances, along with a 2.95 goals-against average.

Ullmark was pulled during Ottawa’s 7–5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday after surrendering four goals on 14 shots, one night before the Senators announced his leave of absence.
