JUST-IN: East Carolina Pirates’ Blake Harrell Secures Former Notre Dame Quarterback to Boost 2026 Offense

East Carolina football has strengthened its quarterback room for the 2026 season, as head coach Blake Harrell secured a commitment from former Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey. The Pirates add an experienced dual-threat signal-caller to help lead a revitalized offense.

Minchey competed for the starting role at Notre Dame during fall camp but ultimately served as a backup to freshman CJ Carr. During the 2025 season, he appeared in six games in relief duty, completing 20 of 26 passes for 196 yards, demonstrating accuracy, poise, and playmaking ability in limited action.

The commitment provides East Carolina with a talented and versatile quarterback capable of competing for the starting job in spring practice and fall camp. Minchey brings leadership and a dual-threat skill set that fits Blake Harrell’s offensive philosophy, offering more flexibility and depth to the Pirates’ attack.

Harrell emphasized that adding Minchey aligns with the program’s goal of building a dynamic, balanced offense. His ability to make plays with both his arm and legs gives the Pirates additional options in the passing game while opening opportunities for the running game.

With Minchey now on board, East Carolina looks to compete at a higher level in the American Athletic Conference in 2026. The Pirates hope his experience and versatility will stabilize the quarterback position and provide a foundation for offensive success in the upcoming season.
