USC has officially lost one of the crown jewels of its recent recruiting classes, as five-star quarterback has entered the NCAA transfer portal and chosen East Carolina as his next destination.
Husan Longstreet
Longstreet’s decision comes amid continued roster reshuffling for the Trojans following the conclusion of the season. The highly touted freshman informed USC of his intent to explore the portal before finalizing his move to Greenville, giving the Pirates one of the most significant quarterback additions in program history.
A former five-star prospect and one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Longstreet arrived at USC with expectations of competing for the starting job under head coach Lincoln Riley. He impressed during spring practices and early workouts but ultimately found himself behind incumbent starter Jayden Maiava, who has since announced his return to the Trojans for the upcoming season.

With a crowded quarterback room and limited immediate opportunities, Longstreet elected to seek a fresh start. East Carolina emerged as his clear and preferred option, offering a path to early playing time and a chance to become the centerpiece of the Pirates’ offense.
The move represents a massive win for ECU head coach Mike Houston and his staff, as the Pirates add an elite arm with Power Five pedigree and long-term upside. Longstreet’s arrival is expected to immediately elevate expectations in Greenville and energize the fan base heading into the new season.
For USC, the loss stings. Longstreet was a key piece of the Trojans’ future plans at quarterback after originally committing to Texas A&M before flipping to USC late in the recruiting process. His departure continues a period of transition for the Trojans, who have already seen movement on both sides of the ball through the transfer portal.
As for Longstreet, the former Centennial High School (Corona, Calif.) standout now gets a chance to reset his college career. With his talent, arm strength, and mobility, he is widely expected to compete for the starting job at East Carolina and could quickly become one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the Group of Five.
All eyes will now be on how quickly Longstreet adapts to his new environment—and whether his move to East Carolina can reshape the Pirates’ trajectory moving forward.
