U-TURN: 3-Year Iowa State Starter Chooses to Visit Missouri After Nebraska Trip, Drawn by Tigers’ Culture

A proven three-year starter from Iowa State is continuing to explore his options in the transfer portal, and Missouri has now emerged as a key stop following a recent visit to Nebraska.

Offensive lineman Brendan Black, a mainstay on the Cyclones’ front line over the past three seasons, has paid a visit to Missouri after previously spending time with the Cornhuskers. The Tigers’ program made a strong impression, particularly with its culture and overall direction under head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Black brings significant experience wherever he lands. A former three-star recruit out of The Bolles School in Florida, he developed quickly at Iowa State, playing in 10 games and starting seven as a true freshman. He went on to start 13 games in 2024 and 10 more in 2025, finishing with 30 career starts, all at right guard. Upon entering the portal, he was rated as a four-star transfer by 247Sports, ranking among the top interior offensive linemen available.

While Nebraska initially appeared to be a strong contender as Matt Rhule looks to rebuild the Huskers’ offensive line, Missouri’s pitch resonated with Black during his visit. The Tigers’ emphasis on player development, toughness in the trenches, and a tight-knit locker room culture reportedly stood out as he evaluates his next move.

On the field, Black has a track record of boosting the run game. He was a key piece of an Iowa State offense that ranked in the top half of the FBS in rushing and consistently topped 150 yards on the ground late in the season, helping pave the way for All-Big 12 recognition for the Cyclones’ backfield.

With Missouri continuing to prioritize experience and physicality up front, Black’s visit signals the Tigers’ serious interest as his recruitment unfolds following his stop in Lincoln.
