East Carolina has strengthened its 2026 recruiting class with the addition of running back, a dynamic playmaker from Stratford High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina. McGowan’s commitment gives the Pirates another explosive offensive piece as they continue building for the future.
Meliq McGowan
McGowan, listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, put together a standout senior season, establishing himself as one of the most productive backs in the state. He rushed for nearly 1,900 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also contributing in the passing game with close to 200 receiving yards and three additional scores. His performances helped Stratford finish 10–2 and make a deep playoff run.

Beyond the stat sheet, McGowan earned statewide recognition for his play, including selection to the Shrine Bowl and first-team honors on the All-Friday Night Lights team, highlighting his status as one of South Carolina’s top running back prospects.
McGowan announced his commitment publicly and is expected to sign during the early signing period before enrolling at ECU. His blend of speed, vision, and physicality projects well for the Pirates’ offensive system and gives the program a high-ceiling option in the backfield.
With McGowan on board, East Carolina continues to gain momentum on the recruiting trail, adding another versatile offensive weapon to a 2026 class focused on long-term growth and playmaking potential.
