South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class got an early boost when three-star safety Jernard Albright from Effingham County High School in Springfield, Georgiaofficially pledged to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Christmas Day.
Albright’s announcement came via a phone call to head coach Shane Beamer, solidifying his decision nearly eight months after receiving his first offer from the program.
Albright, a defensive back known for his physical play and tackling ability, chose the Gamecocks over a competitive field of offers.
While some recruiting outlets rate him as a four-star prospect nationally, he has been tabbed as a top safety in the 2027 class, drawing interest from multiple Power Five programs before finalizing his commitment to Columbia.
A key factor in Albright’s decision was his relationship with South Carolina’s coaching staff, particularly defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, who worked closely with him throughout his recruitment.
Albright praised the connection and the program’s vision for his development, citing the staff’s support and belief in his potential.
His pledge gives the Gamecocks a strong foundation at safety as they kick off the 2027 cycle, adding depth to a defensive back room that has seen recent success both at the college level and in the NFL.
South Carolina hopes Albright’s commitment will help build momentum as it continues to pursue other key targets.
