Reloading Legacy: Washington Huskies football Add Another 2027 Defensive Line Pledge From Younger Brother of 2025 Standout, Keeping the Family Name Roaring on Montlake After 2025 Defender’s Exit

The Washington Huskies football will only spend one season without a member of the Uiagalelei family on the roster. After dTa’ita’i Uiagalelei wrapped up his career following the 2025 campaign on Montlake, his younger brother, Matamatagi, pledged his commitment on Sunday to head coach Jedd Fisch and defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi.

Matamatagi Uiagalelei, a defensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class from Mater Dei High School, is rated the No. 83 defensive lineman and No. 751 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Earlier in the week, he scheduled an official visit to Washington for May 29–31.

He previously mentioned to Dawgman.com’s Scott Eklund that those dates could shift, especially with Mater Dei teammate Montana Toilolo planning a June 5 visit to Montlake. Now that Uiagalelei is committed, there’s a strong chance he could adjust his trip to match Toilolo’s, potentially helping recruit his teammate during the visit.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound lineman drew offers from programs such as Arizona State Sun Devils football, Auburn Tigers football, Miami Hurricanes football, Michigan Wolverines football, Missouri Tigers football, and UCLA Bruins football, but ultimately chose the Huskies.

Washington earned its first 2027 defensive line commit from 3-star Matamatagi Uiagalelei! For more on what he brings to the table and what else the Huskies need to do in the class

Already physically advanced for his age, Uiagalelei has room to add more size and benefits from a strong FBS pedigree, giving Washington considerable upside as it continues rebuilding its defensive front. It’s not unrealistic to envision him eventually filling a similar inside-outside hybrid role to the one his older brother played in 2025 under coordinator Ryan Walters.

With his pledge, Washington now holds seven commitments in the 2027 class, joining four-star receivers Braylon Pope and Zerek Sidney, three-star cornerback Maurice Williams, and three-star linebackers Justin Coach, Ethan Coach, and Titus Osterman.
