Just In: Texas Rangers Boost Clubhouse Leadership and Depth With Signing of Another Five-Time MLB All-Star

The Texas Rangers have reportedly agreed to a minor league contract with veteran outfielder and designated hitter Andrew McCutchen, according to Evan Grant.

Throughout the offseason, Texas has been searching for a right-handed hitter who could share designated hitter duties with Joc Pederson. Prior to this move, their only attempt to address that need was signing Mark Canha to a minor league deal.

At 39 years old, McCutchen brings a more decorated résumé and stronger track record than Canha. The National League MVP winner in 2013 spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, including the past three seasons.

Since 2022, he has primarily served as a designated hitter but has also occasionally appeared in the corner outfield.

Although McCutchen posted a modest .239/.333/.367 slash line last season, he performed better against left-handed pitching with a .267/.353/.389 mark. In addition to his on-field contributions, he is widely regarded as a strong clubhouse leader who could provide valuable veteran guidance if he earns a spot on the Rangers’ roster. ⚾
