Major Breaking: All-Star Left-Hander Locked In Through 2032 as Phillies Take Big Step Toward Sustained Success

The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly secured their star pitcher with a long-term contract extension. According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, the team signed Cristopher Sánchez to a six-year deal that includes a club option for 2033.

The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported the extension guarantees the All-Star left-hander $107 million through 2032, including his $3.5 million salary for 2026, while Francys Romero noted the deal also includes over $13 million in performance bonuses.

Sánchez is coming off the best season of his five-year career, finishing second in National League Cy Young voting with 212 strikeouts, a 2.50 ERA over 202 innings, and leading all of Major League Baseball with an 8.0 bWAR. At 29 years old, he has firmly established himself as one of the league’s top pitchers.

The extension was somewhat unexpected, as Sánchez was set to begin the second season of his existing four-year, $23.5 million deal with the Phillies, which included two club options.

This new agreement, however, ensures that Philadelphia will retain Sánchez, Jesus Luzardo, and Trea Turner under team control even beyond the expiration of Bryce Harper’s contract in 2031.

The reported contract could also serve as a benchmark for Harper, who has expressed interest in restructuring his deal with the Phillies.

The extension highlights the Phillies’ commitment to keeping elite pitching in the fold, especially in contrast to teams like the Detroit Tigers, who have not extended Tarik Skubal.

Sánchez now aims to help Philadelphia bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season and play a key role in the team’s pursuit of a World Series title.
