The Los Angeles Angels will open their 2026 season against the Houston Astros, and ahead of Opening Day, they’ve added a familiar arm to their roster.
According to reports, 32-year-old pitcher Joey Lucchesi—formerly of the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets—has signed with the Angels and is expected to make the Opening Day roster.
Lucchesi, who debuted in 2018 with the San Diego Padres, began his career as a starter but has since transitioned into a relief role. With seven seasons of MLB experience across multiple teams, he brings versatility and veteran depth to Los Angeles.
Although he worked out of the bullpen last year with the Giants, Lucchesi still has the ability to step into a starting role if needed, giving the Angels flexibility in their pitching staff.

With Grayson Rodriguez starting the season on the injured list, Lucchesi could be called upon for spot starts early in the year until the rotation stabilizes.
For now, the Angels will wrap up spring training against the Dodgers before turning their focus to Opening Day.
