East Carolina Pirates men’s basketball guard Ladontae Felton has formally entered the NCAA transfer portal, announcing his intention to seek a new program as he looks toward the next chapter of his collegiate career.
Felton, a redshirt freshman this past season, will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop, giving him considerable runway to make an impact elsewhere.
Felton, a 6‑foot‑2 guard out of South Aiken High School in South Carolina, originally joined the Pirates as part of the 2024 recruiting class.
After redshirting his first season in Greenville, he saw limited action this year, appearing in four games and gaining valuable experience in his debut collegiate campaign.

While his on‑court numbers were modest, Felton’s athleticism, size, and potential caught the attention of coaches and fans alike, and his move to the portal reflects a desire to find a situation where he can secure more consistent playing time and develop his game further.
Having three remaining seasons of eligibility, he will be an appealing target for programs looking to add young backcourt talent.
Felton also has deep ties to ECU basketball through his family, as he is the younger brother of former Pirates standout RJ Felton, who finished his career ranked third in program history in scoring and became one of ECU’s most celebrated players.

That connection has highlighted Felton’s time in Greenville and underscored the strong basketball lineage he brings with him.
With Felton’s departure, East Carolina will look to further develop its backcourt depth as the Pirates continue to build under head coach Michael Schwartz.
The move to the portal opens a roster spot and could provide opportunities for incoming recruits or returning players to step into larger roles next season.
