Rangers Reload: “Rangers Make Bold Move Ahead of Season, Bringing in Another Experienced Cubs Right-Hander to Strengthen Their Bullpen and Rotation”

The Texas Rangers have re-signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier, according to MLB.com’s transactions tracker. Brasier initially joined the Rangers in February but was released just before Opening Day after failing to make the team out of spring training.

A nine-year MLB veteran, Brasier made his debut with the Angels in 2013 and spent most of his career with the Red Sox.

After a rough start to the 2023 season in Boston, he was released and signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers, where he turned his season around, posting a remarkable 0.70 ERA across 39 games. His performance earned him a two-year deal with Los Angeles in free agency.

Brasier’s second season with the Dodgers was hampered by a calf strain that kept him on the injured list for much of the year, though he still managed a 3.54 ERA.

A decline in his strikeout rate ultimately led to him being removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, and he was traded to the Cubs before spring training.

In Chicago, injuries—including a left groin strain—limited him to only partial seasons, and his strikeout rate dropped further, with his ERA rising to 4.50 when healthy.

Upon reaching free agency, Brasier saw limited interest due to ongoing health concerns, declining strikeout rates, and below-average run prevention in 2025, despite a solid 3.17 FIP with the Cubs.

He signed a minor league deal with the Rangers but struggled in spring training, giving up six earned runs in eight appearances and missing a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Brasier is now back with the Rangers organization and will begin the season with Triple-A Round Rock, aiming to regain form and earn another chance at the major league level later this year.
