Bullpen Shake-Up Continues
The New York Mets’ bullpen remains in flux, with another significant move that could result in the exit of a player signed for $1.75 million during the offseason.
Garcia Designated for Assignment
On Sunday, the Mets designated veteran reliever Luis Garcia for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster as he now awaits clearance through waivers. Given his experience, there’s a real possibility another team could claim him.
Struggles Early in the Season
At 39 years old, Garcia has struggled to find form, recording a 7.11 ERA across six appearances this season. Despite the rough start, he holds a respectable 4.11 career ERA over 609 MLB games.

Well-Traveled Veteran Presence
This season marks Garcia’s first stint with the Mets after pitching in 2025 for the Dodgers, Nationals, and Angels. Over the course of 14 MLB seasons, he has also played for the Phillies, Padres, Cardinals, Red Sox, and Rangers.

Uncertain Future Ahead
Although his career strikeout rate stands at 8.4 per nine innings, it has dropped to 5.7 this season. While he now fits more into a middle-relief role, his experience could still attract interest, leaving the Mets waiting to see if he’ll be claimed off waivers.
