Blackhawks Shock the League with a Major Contract-Signing for Florida Panthers $13 Million Top Talented Player Between the Pipes, Cementing Stability for Years to Come

The Chicago Blackhawks have been active recently, and Elliotte Friedman highlighted some of their moves, particularly Frank Nazar’s long-term contract and the potential for a future deal with Connor Bedard.

He also suggested the team may soon look at extending goaltender Spencer Knight, who is entering the final year of his current contract before becoming a restricted free agent.

On his 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman noted that when organizations believe strongly in a player, they often commit early.

He compared Knight’s situation to Nazar’s, with Chicago betting on Nazar’s potential by giving him a seven-year extension, a move GM Kyle Davidson might be willing to repeat with Knight.

While Bedard isn’t currently in extension talks, Friedman speculated that the Blackhawks could try to secure Knight before his contract expires.

Knight’s future value is uncertain, as his numbers in limited action with Chicago — a 3.18 goals-against average and .896 save percentage in 15 starts last season — aren’t overly impressive.

Still, his earlier success with the Florida Panthers, where he posted stronger career averages (2.82 GAA, .905 SV% in 95 games), may encourage Chicago to take a long-term gamble on him.
