From Release to Redemption: Shockwaves Across MLB as Mariners Release Their 2024 Gold Glove Winner — Rangers Step In and Secure the Star Defender to Strengthen Their Roster

The Texas Rangers have added former Mariners utilityman Dylan Moore on a minor league contract, just two days after Seattle designated him for assignment, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The signing comes in the wake of a major blow to the Rangers’ infield—second baseman Marcus Semien suffered a fractured and sprained left foot that is expected to end his season.

This marks Moore’s second stint in the Texas organization, having originally been drafted by the club in 2015.

He made his big-league debut with Seattle in 2019 and, while he never consistently found success at the plate, he established himself as a standout defender.

His versatility and reliability in the field earned him a Gold Glove for utility players in 2024, with experience at every position except catcher.

At the plate, Moore struggled again in 2024, hitting .193 with a .622 OPS and 12 stolen bases across 88 games.

Seattle parted ways with him to clear roster space for Victor Robles, who was activated from the 60-day injured list.

Ironically, Robles now faces a 10-game suspension for throwing his bat toward a pitcher during a rehab assignment, though he is appealing and remains eligible to play in the meantime.

For Texas, Moore represents a depth option as the team continues its push for the postseason.

Entering Tuesday’s action, the Rangers sit at 66-67, 5.5 games out of the American League Wild Card race as September approaches.

Financially, the Mariners remain responsible for the balance of Moore’s $3.575 million salary.

If the Rangers promote him to the big-league roster, they would only be on the hook for the prorated league minimum of $760,000.

He will become a free agent at season’s end but would be eligible for Texas’ postseason roster should the team make a late playoff run.
