The Texas Rangers will enter the 2026 MLB season with a new leader at the helm, as Skip Schumaker takes over as manager.
With that change, the organization may look to reshape parts of the roster.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez highlighted one major possibility: dealing Adolis Garcia.
Garcia, a two-time All-Star and the 2023 ALCS MVP, is now 32 and coming off a down year in which he hit just .227 with a .665 OPS.

According to Gonzalez, “Many around the league expect the Rangers to trim payroll and get younger under Schumaker, with outfielder Adolis Garcia viewed as a top trade candidate.”
During the GM Meetings, however, Rangers president Chris Young dismissed the idea of making moves simply for the sake of change.
“We’re going to keep a payroll that’s high enough to compete,” Young told ESPN. “We have a strong core already, and we’re not in a position where we need to make trades to clear salary or increase flexibility. We expect to win regardless of that number.”

Texas had a strange 2025 campaign, leading MLB in team ERA but still finishing nine games behind in the AL West.
Their offense has lagged for two straight seasons after winning the World Series, and while Garcia’s drop-off has contributed, he’s not the only issue.

The Rangers will need to revamp their lineup somehow—whether through adding pieces, moving them, or making a change that amounts to addition by subtraction.
